Composer, Conductor, Clarinetist
Count Zander is a composer and instrumentalist from Torrance, California. His debut LP, “Diogenes Was Here,” is a showcase of his range as a composer, featuring classical, contemporary, cinematic, and folk styles. Primarily a classical clarinetist, Zander also sings, plays piano, Native American flute, and jaw harp.
Count Zander currently studies film scoring at California State University, Northridge. He has conducted his own arrangements for the CSUN Studio Ensemble at the Plaza Del Sol Theater and at EastWest Studios in Hollywood. As a student, he has received numerous scholarships and accolades. After graduation, he aims to make a career as a professional film score composer.
Count Zander is an alumnus of El Camino College and South High School. At El Camino, he served two terms as the President of the Society of Music and co-founded their semi-annual composer’s showcase, where he premiered his concerto for the Native American Flute (“For Those Who Tread Upon the Earth,”) and “Turtle Music.” In 2022, his baroque style arrangement “Variations on a Meme by Weezer” was met with great acclaim and enthusiasm from his peers in the Haag Recital Hall. In May of 2024, Zander performed Mozart’s Coronation Mass with the El Camino Symphony Orchestra and choir at Carnegie Hall.
As a student at South Torrance High School, Zander played in the Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, and the award winning Spartan Marching Band, both as a clarinetist and drum major. South High’s 2021 field show “Cleopatra” placed sixth at CSBC Open Finals. He was awarded a Spartan Laurel Certificate in the Performing Arts category in 2022 for his contributions to the South High Band and Theater program, as well as the South High Band Senior Scholarship.
Outside of instrumental music, Count Zander enjoys video editing, stop motion animation, singing, and acting.
